Forensic Examination & Analysis
Technical Forensic Support Unit (TFSU) staff attend all Clandestine Laboratories with NSWP. Their tasks involve conducting on-site chemical analysis utilising portable instruments, such as Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy, Raman Spectroscopy, Gas Detection, Ion Mobility Spectrometry, and performing select wet chemical tests to preliminarily identify substances. TFSU staff will be in attendance to assist with practical demonstrations.

The Australasian Clandestine Laboratory Conference will be held in Sydney from 17 September – 20 September 2024.
The conference will be held at the Shangri-La Hotel, The Rocks and is aimed at clandestine laboratory and drug investigators. The conference will run for four days and will focus on emerging precursor chemicals, importation trends, organised crime networks, methylamphetamine manufacture techniques, MDMA manufacture techniques, psychedelic manufacture, extractions, breakaway groups for more specialist topics, plus special presentations and practical demonstrations.
Conference attendees will be provided with the opportunity to develop specialised knowledge in relation to drug manufacture investigative strategies, information helpful in shaping future investigations, and an increased understanding of the safety and risk considerations of clandestine laboratories for law enforcement personnel and others attending the site, ultimately helping to keep their community safe.
Tickets are $550 AUD with an early bird special of $500 AUD which concludes on 15 July 2024. Included in the price is access to the conference, daily morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea plus refreshments.
Further inclusions in the ticket price are a fully funded course dinner ticket for the Thursday night, which includes networking opportunities for national and international drug investigators. The venue host, the Shangri-La Hotel, is offering heavily discounted accommodation packages for course attendees which will also include a daily hot breakfast.
